MONRO, JOHN [SSNE 3124]
Text source
John Monro was a lieutenant in colonel Donald Mackay's [SSNE 93] regiment of Swedish service in 1629. This probably means that he transferred into the Swedish army from the Danish-Norwegian one, as many Scottish officers did upon King Christian IV's signing of the treaty of Lubeck
Swedish Krigsarkiv, Muster Roll, 1629/18
By a process of elimination, we might offer this man as the veteran of continental service who served as major to Fraser's Dragoons in the Army of the Solemn League and Covenant in 1644. See: A list of the Several Regiments and Chief Officers of the Scottish Army quartered neer Newcastle (London 1644); Ed. Furgol, A Regimental History of the Covenanting Armies, 1639-1641 (Edinburgh, 1990), 139-141.
