James Kennedy served as a lieutenant in Ruse's infantry regiment between 1670-6. He was promoted to captain in Weijher's regiment in 1676 and took part in the storming of Landskrone castle and the battle of Lund the same year. Kennedy was captured and imprisoned in Malmo by the Swedes in 1677 but exchanged the same year. The same fate befell him in 1678. In 1685 he served a captain in Prince Frederik's regiment, but died and was buried soon after at a cost of 50 rixdaler in March 1686E.
