Nicholas Byer was an artist from Trondheim in Norway and he arrived in England c.1677. He painted both potraits and landscapes. Once in England he found his patron in Sir William Temple on Surrey. He lived there for four years before his death in 1681. He died at Sheens and was buried at St Clement Danes. Among other works, he painted some portraits of the royal family.Source, DNB.
