LINDSAY, ANDREW [SSNE 2950]
Text source
Andrew Lindsay was a captain in Patrick Ruthven's [SSNE 3413] regiment from 1629 to 1631. This is probably the same Alexander Lindsay who in April 1629 successfully applied to Chancellor Axel Oxenstierna for permission to enter Swedish service - having apparently previously served the Emperor under Colonel Farensbach. This may be the same man as a captain Andrew Lindsay who approached Chancellor Oxenstierna in April 1631 regarding a recruitment trip on behalf of Crawford's regiment.Swedish Krigsarkiv, Muster Roll, 1629/14,18,20; 1630/22,23,26-29; 1631/12,15-17; Rikskansleren Axel Oxenstiernas skrifter och brefvexling, first series, IV, p.492; ibid, VI, pp.218-9.
