William Kerr served as He began his career as an ensign when Alexander Leslie's [SSNE 1]had a company in the Kalmar Regiment in 1618. He remained in the section of the regiment which came under Patrick Ruthven's [SSNE 3413] command as the Smaland/Kalmar[SSNE 3413] regiment until 1622. Kerr then and returned to Alexander Leslie's Narke och Varmland regiment in 1626. He was promoted to captain in 1628 and the regiment came under the colonelcy of John Kinnemond[SSNE 2828]. In July 1629 was the commander at Frauenburg - a Swedish held town and castle in Polish Prussia (part of Colonel Erik Ryning's land). Chancellor Axel Oxenstierna learned that Kerr had requisitioned a boat belonging to an inhabitant of Frauenburg and ordered the Captain to return it to the civilian. The Chancellor warned Kerr again two days later that he faced disciplining if he did not comply. He was still in service in 1631
