JORDAN, MIKAEL [SSNE 2764]
Text source
Mikael Jordan is first listed as an ensign in James Seaton's regiment in 1621. He later transferred and became a captain in Nils Ribbing's Osterbotten regiment in 1623. Thereafter he served as a captain in Krst. Assarsson Mannerskold's regiment from Finland during 1624. Jordan continued to transfer regiments. By 1627 he is recorded as a captain in Jacob Scott's Vastergotland squadron in 1627 and two years later, 1629, he could be found as a master of horse with Hans Ekholt's Finnish squadron. He appears to have attained the rank of Colonel by 1649. This is probably the same as the Michael Jordan noted attending the Riksdag in 1638, 1643, 1644, 1645, and 1650. If so, then he is of Silesian origins as in January 1638 he told the Riksdag that he intended to provide proof of his noble origins to facilitate his ennoblement in Sweden. There is a portrait of Colonel Michael Jordan from 1649 in Skokloster castle in Sweden.Swedish Krigsarkiv, Muster Roll, 1621/4; 1623/8; 1624/5; 1627/9,11,13,14; 1629/6,8-10,12,13,15,17,19; Register till Sveriges Ridderskaps och Adels Riksdags-Protokoll (17 vols., Stockholm, 1910), vols. for 1638, 1643, 1644, 1645 and 1650; Sveriges Rikes Ridderskaps och adelns riksdagsprotokoll, vol.iii, p.14.
