John Johnston was a Scottish officer in Swedish service. He was initially a reformed ensign with James Ramsay's [SSNE 3315] regiment in 1629. He was then an ensign with Alexander Hamilton's [SSNE 380] regiment in 1630. He was ensign with John Hamilton's [SSNE 2595] regiment in 1630. This regiment was taken over by Ludovick Leslie [SSNE 396] and served at the battle of Lutzen. He became lieutenant the same yearSwedish Krigsarkiv, Muster Roll, 1629/11; and 1629/9,10,12,18; 1630/23-33; 1631/12-15; 1632/31.
