John Hay was a Scottish officer in Swedish service. He was in Patrick Ruthven's [SSNE 3413] recruited regiment, then in Francis Ruthven's [SSNE 3404]in 1633.

It was possibly this man who served as major to the Midlothian Foot in the Army of the Solemn League and Covenant in 1644.
