Ludovick Hamilton was a brother of Hugo Hamilton [SSNE 2582] av Hageby and the son of Archbishop Malcolm Hamilton of Cashel [though Lodge's Peerage gives him as the son of Archbishop Archibald Hamilton of Cashel]. He immigrated to Sweden after some service to Venice and became a private in the Lifeguard in 1645. Later he became a lieutenant in 1649 and by 1654 he was a major with John Burdon's [SSNE 4345] Dalar regiment. Hamilton was made baron that year with his brother, Hugh, and introduced into the Riddarhus under nr.50. as Baron of Dalserf and Baron and Lord of Nabben. By 1657 he served as a lieutenant colonel in the Crown Prince's infantry lifeguard, although one source places him in William Cranstoun's [SSNE 2101] regiment. Ludovig wrote to King Karl X Gustav from Thorn in 1658. In 1659 Ludvig became colonel of a regiment. In 1661 he and his wife, Anna Catherina Grubbe-Stjernfelt [SSNE 7272] (1631-1689) received permission to return to their family lands in Ireland. He received his final dismissal permit from Swedish service in 1662 along with a travel pass to England but he appears to have died before leaving Gothenburg (other sources note that he was killed on his homeward journey in May 1663) and was buried in Christina church on 2 November that year. His wife made it to Ireland where she was styled Anna Catherine, Lady Hamilton of Tullykeltyre, Co. Fermanagh where she went on to marry Captain James Somervill of Tallacht. She was later forfeited by King James in 1689, the year in which she died. With Anna, Ludovick had two sons who served in both Sweden and Ireland, Gustavus [SSNE 5947] and Malcolm [SSNE 5948]. Both men served in the Enniskillen Regiment for King William, Gustavus as Colonel and Governor of the city.
