James Gordon was an officer in Swedish service. He was an ensign in Robert Stuart's [SSNE 529]regiment in Swedish service in 1630. A reformed ensign of the same name appears in Donald Mackay's [SSNE 93] regiment in 1630. James Gordon is a common name and it is difficult to separate out distinct individuals without more information about their background.*Another ensign James Gordon is listed in David Drummond's [SSNE 2396] regiment in 1635-6.*A fourth ensign James Gordon is listed in Alexander Hay's [SSNE 437] regiment in 1636, and in Alexander Cunningham's [SSNE 2115]in 1638.*A lieutenant James Gordon appears in Robert Stuart's [SSNE 3634] regiment in 1639.It is possible that some or even all of these individuals are the same manSwedish Krigsarkiv, Muster Roll, 1630/37,38; MR 1635/33-55; 1636/16,18-22; MR 1636/18; MR 1638/3; MR 1639/15.
