Joachim Macdougall/Duwall began as an ensign in Gustaf Horn's Norrland regiment until 1625. He became a captain in Johan Baner's Norrland regiment in 1626, and also in Jakob Duwall's Norrland. He was captain in Lennart Torstensson's Norrland regiment from 1628. In 1629 he became captain in Jakob Duwall's recruited regiment and in 1630 he was the regimental quartermaster.
