William Douglas was a captain in James Ramsay's [SSNE 3315] regiment in Swedish service from 1628-31. In February 1630 Chancellor Axel Oxenstierna noted that although Douglas had been recommended by Ramsay earlier he had only been able to accommodate him in Ramsay's regiment at this point. It is probable that it was this Captain William Douglas who in May 1628 received a travel pass from Chancellor Oxenstierna authorising Douglas to go to England (probably Britain)to obtain new recruits to strengthen his company. His company in 1631 included a mix of names, such as lieutenant P. Schaff, and masters of horse Oddenburt and David Nas.
