Sir James Cunningham served first in Gustaf Horn's Norrland regiment, then in Jakmes Duwall's [SSNE 1623] Norrland regiment, and finally in Johan Baner's Norrland regiment. It was probably he whom Robert Monro [SSNE 94] mentions as lieutenant colonel in Swedish service in 1632R. Monro, His Expedition with the worthy Scots regiment called Mackeyes (2 vols., London, 1632), II, List of the Scottish Officers in Chief; Swedish Krigsarkiv, Muster Roll, 1624/4; 1625/4-6.
