CRICHTON, JOHN [SSNE 2103]
Text source
John Crichton served first in George Cunningham's [SSNE 2118] recruited regiment, then in Robert Cunningham's [SSNE 2132] recruited regiment. As he served in 1636 he probably participated in the Battle of Wittstock. This is perhaps the same John Crichton as the man listed by Balfour Paul as 3rd son of William, 9th Lord Chrichton of Sanquhar, who was described as a colonel in the German WarsSir James Balfour Paul, The Scots Peerage (8 vols., Edinburgh, 1904-1911), III, p.235; Swedish Krigsarkiv, Muster Roll, 1632/18-21; 1633/11-22; 1634/12-23; 1635/20-26, 29-31; 1636/ 15, 18, 20.
