Robert Bruce was born in 1660 in Småland. He remained unmarried throughout his life, preferring to dedicate his life to the military. He served in the Lifregiment cavalry in 1690 by the Rhine river and was later sub-stable master with the artillery in 1700. He is perhaps the same Robert Bruce who served in the Riga Garrison and died on campaign in Poland
