BELL, HENRY [SSNE 1774]
Text source
The Venetian ambassador in London once reported that Henry Bell "has practised arms under the king of Sweden and the elector of Brandenburg, to wit the drilling of new troops [...] offers his services to the republic of Venice". A Captain Henry Bell was sent as an ambassador to Brandenburg in 1629 and it is probably the same individual that served in the army of that Elector.Calendar of State Papers (Venice), vol.xv, 1617-19, p.49: G. M. Bell, A Handlist of British Diplomatic Representatives 1509-1688 (London, 1990).
