Peter Young served as a Stuart envoy to Denmark-Norway several times. He accompanied Sir Patrick Vaus [SSNE 1600] in the summer of 1587. King James VI of Scotland wrote Patrick on 14 June 1587 regarding Scottish merchant ships returning from Danzig with food - apparently the English had been intercepting them. The king requested that these ships not be tolled at Elsinore and he wanted to know all the details of the said ships in order to learn who was selling food to other countries when Scotland was in need of it. In 1596 Peter travelled with Lord Ogilvy of Airlie [SSNE 1562]; and in 1598 he joined David Cunningham not only to Denmark but also to German princes to explain James VI's right to the English crown.

In 1627 a diplomat called Sir Peter Young accompanied Sir James Spens [SSNE 1642] to Prussia to present the Order of the Garter to King Gustav II Adolf of Sweden on behalf of King Charles I. There, Young in turn was knighted by Gustav II Adolf. It is not clear if this was the same man who had previously travelled to Denmark. It is known that the Peter Young who did go to Denmark did not die until 1628. He would have been an extremely old man.
