SCOTT, WALTER [SSNE 1574]
Text source
Walter Scott was a burgess of Dysart, who was detained at Vardohus (Norway) potentially while trading with Russia. James VI asked on Scott's behalf for authorisation to fish for some years in the Northern Seas with his six vessels, to load them with fish and other goods and to carry them through the Danish straits to sell the fish in either Russia or Baltic countries. The request was granted 3/11/1584 on condition of the payment of toll at Elsinore for both fishing and transport of goods.
