James Robertston was a graduate from Edinburgh, called a "Magister". He matriculated in 1589 at Heidelberg, and in 1591 at Herborn. He sailed to England in the autumn of 1591, but was shipwrecked off Norway. He spent most of the winter with Christian Machabaeus at Soro who recommended him to Christoffer Knopf at Roskilde when he desired to leave (25/4/1592, ed. Ilsoe, Kirkehistoriske Samlinger 7.rk.
