David Morton had served at the Danish court since 1585. In 1587 he wanted to return to Scotland, and obtained a letter of recommendation from king Frederik II of Denmark-Norway. He was engaged at the Danish court as a "hofjunker" (court gentelman) 1585-7. He was released from service as he wanted to return to Scotland. Possibly served in the navyT.
