Born in 1561 in Aberdeen, Duncan Liddell travelled to Germany to undertake further studies. He was enrolled at Frankfurt on the Oder in 1579, and was among other places at Breslau between 1582-4. He visited Tycho Brahe at Uraniborg on 24/6/1587 and taught Brahe's astronomic system at Rostock between 1589-90, and later - from 1591 till 1607 - at Helmstadt where he passed it off for his own. At Rostock he was listed as 'Postea professor medicinae et mathematum helmaestadii unde rediit in Scotiam'. Liddel left Helmstadt in 1607 and died in his native Aberdeen in 1617
