William Halliday was noted as a Scottish student at Uppsala university in 1684. He was the son of William Halliday [SSNE 787] and Catharina Tobertsdotter Petrie. In 1685 He was given religious instruction by one John Guthrie [SSNE 2369] (a Scot who had previously been in William's father's service before deciding to become a priest) on Guthrie's return from Wittenberg. Halliday took part in a Swedish embassy to Russia in 1699 and went on to become a councillor of Stockholm. He died in 1727.
