Jens Jacobsen Mackenzie was born in Trondheim circa 1653. By 1707 he had served 38 years, since he first joined the army in 1669. He served first as an ensign in Marsall's dragoons of Nordenfjelds in 1688, and later in Vaerdalske company from 1710. He left service in 1719. Mackenzie's name suggest that he is probably the son of Jacob who was in turn the son of Jost. It is unclear if Jost and/or Jacob were born in Scotland or Norway.O.
