Text source
Robert Lorimer was a merchant who traded and settled in Denmark aound 1607 when he is first recorded as paying taxes. In 1619 he married Marine (Maren) Andersens. Lorimer gave her niece Birgitte - daughter of her brother Alexander Anderson - whom he had brought up for ten years, 20 daler and clothes although she was entitled to no inheritance after her aunt died in 1630. Lorrimer's second wife Anne survived him. As Lorimer had no issue, she was to pay part of the estate's value to the crown, about 80 daler. Lorrimer had been appointed guardian for Peter Forbes's daughter Malene on 24 September 1612 and for James, son of David Colin 1 March 1641. He had also served as a member of the jury in a witchcraft trial 24 April 1626. As part of his civic duties Lorimer became a taxerborger (tax assessor) on 4 January 1636. Other references to him show that he gave evidence to a skipper of Leith who had found a corpse at sea in 1619.T. Riis, Should Auld Acquaintance Be Forgot (Odense, 1988), II, p.229.
