Robert Jacob was Queen Elizabeth of England's personal physician and was sent by her to the service of Ivan IV in 1581. Jacob suggested that the tsar marry Mary Hastings, but the tsar's death in 1584 put an end to those plans and Jacob's mission. Returned again to Moscow in 1586 with a midwife to advise Tsar Fedor's cosort Irina.
