Bess Rhodes specialises in the history of early modern Scotland, with a focus on crisis and disruption in the sixteenth century. Her previous research has covered themes as varied as religious reform, urban property holding, warfare, and Anglo-Scottish relations. Religion and landscapes form significant elements in her research. Bess has an emerging interest in concepts of environmental sustainability in late medieval and early modern Scotland.
