Dr Chandrika Kaul on Edward VII.

26 April 2021

Dr Chandrika Kaul of the School of History was interviewed for a Channel 5 documentary examining the life of King Edward VII, broadcast on Saturday 24 April 2021. Born in 1841, the eldest son of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, Edward was heir to the throne for nearly sixty years before his Coronation in 1902. The documentary examines his fractious relationship with Queen Victoria, his marriage to Princess Alexandra of Denmark and his  reputation as the 'playboy prince'. Following his Coronation in 1902, King Edward VII was widely viewed as a popular monarch alongside his Queen consort, Alexandra, who were both seen as modernisers, ushering in the new Edwardian age. The documentary can currently be viewed on Channel 5's My5 catch-up service.

Dr Kaul also recently contributed to a documentary by Channel 5 which charted the life and career of Earl Louis Mountbatten.
