Take part in hall events

Updated on: 23 May 2024

Get involved with your hall community through events hosted by your hall of residence.

Hall events are social, sports, and cultural activities to help you meet other students and make the most of your time at University. You can join these events by talking to your Halls Life team or looking for announcements from your hall of residence.

Social events and activities

Your hall has many social events to help you meet people and relax:

  • Weekly events: join video and board game nights, pub quizzes, film and pizza nights, beach bonfires, garden parties, sports games, and karaoke nights.
  • Wine and cheese nights: meet your wardens and other residents in a relaxed setting.
  • Hall balls: dress up for annual grand balls and enjoy an evening of fun and dancing.

Sports and competitions

Take part in the Hall Sport programme, where halls compete in different sports throughout the year. Each hall earns points, and the hall with the most points wins at the end of the year.

Organised trips and traditions

Each hall has unique trips and traditions. For example:

  • Organised trips: residents at Agnes Blackadder Hall can go on the Christmas bus trip to Edinburgh, while those at Andrew Melville Hall have the chance to attend rugby games.
  • Traditions: residents of St Salvator's Hall can attend weekly High Table dinners, a formal dinner with notable University staff or community members, while those at John Burnet Hall can take part in John Burnet’s birthday celebration.
