International Women’s Day: Women in STEM Networking Event
On March 8 Ece Sagiroglu, an MSc Health Data Science student and British Council scholar, took part in the Women in STEM Networking Event in Glasgow organized by the British Council and hosted by the University of Glasgow, as part of International Women’s Day. The event brought together 100+ amazing women in STEM and Ece shared that it was one of the most inspiring events she’s experienced.
“Being surrounded by brilliant women, hearing their stories, and sharing our collective aspirations gave me renewed hope for the future. Once again, I realized how crucial it is to challenge barriers and actively work toward equality.
However, women’s rights continue to face significant obstacles - often intersecting with other forms of discrimination such as age, ethnicity, religion, and socioeconomic status. True progress happens only when we stop all forms of discrimination and take meaningful action. At the event, each of us wrote a personal pledge for a more equitable future, and we were even given a small mascot as a reminder of our commitment.
Let’s make the next International Women’s Day one where we celebrate the achievements of bright women, not one where we still have to fight against violence, discrimination, and injustice. To all those facing challenges and whose voices often go unheard - your voices matter. Let’s keep pushing for change.”
