We All Die at the End

Dr Sam Haddow's new book, We All Die at the End: Storytelling in the Climate Apocalypse, has been published by Manchester University Press, and will be available in hardback and as an Ebook from 18 March 2025.

We All Die at the End surveys end-of-the-world literature, children's fiction, video games, theatre, and films to discover how the climate crisis has impacted storytelling across mediums. Drawing on theories of ecocriticism and narrative framework, this book shows the extinction narratives of these works as both a coping mechanism and a cautionary tale for the reader, exploring why these narratives are an important first step in approaching the enormity of the climate crisis.

As the threat of human extinction grows more real, We All Die at the End considers more seriously how the climate crisis has changed contemporary media and how this media plays a concrete role in allowing readers to come to terms with the changing ecological landscape.
