Medieval Explorations Workshop
This interdisciplinary workshop was supported by joint seed funding from Charles University (Professor Lucie Doležalová) and the University of St Andrews (Professor Ian Johnson). It was organised by the School of English with participation from members of the St Andrews Institute of Medieval Studies (SAIMS) and the Institute of Scottish Historical Research (ISHR).
Multiple aspects of medieval written culture were considered through six individual sessions. These included:
- Creating vernacular histories (Professor John Thompson)
- Creating visual histories (Dr Martha Baldon)
- The uses of history in literary research (Dr Martha Baldon and Dr Roberta Marangi)
- Manuscript fragments and documentary contexts (Professor Margaret Connolly)
- Visually recreating historic sites (Dr Bess Rhodes).
Staff and students alike presented their research interests in a PechaKucha style session and at the two sessions in Special Collections. The event focussed on the exchange of research ideas and generated many productive conversations. These will provide the foundation for future collaborations between medievalists in St Andrews and Prague.
