Vertically Integrated Projects
Education with an edge
Are you a student looking to boost your employability as part of your degree? Are you an academic staff member keen to explore research-led teaching? We welcome you to explore Vertically Integrated Projects (VIP): the modules with a difference. VIPs are modules with a difference!
A Vertically Integrated Project (VIP) is an ongoing research project led by an academic supervisor and made up of a team of students from any level of study (the ‘vertical’ aspect). The team of students can come from different subject areas with diverse backgrounds and skills across both arts and science.
Students can earn credits and receive a grade for the project. They may be able to remain on the project for several semesters if this can be accommodated in the curriculum.
Student applications for 2024-2025 now open for select projects!
"Participating in a VIP has not only developed my skills in academics but as a young professional as well. The interpersonal and technical skills you gain are easily transferable into the workplace, and I found it has really given me a boost in my applications and job interviews as well." - Emma, University of St Andrews Business School
"The main benefit of VIPs is the collaborative relationship they can foster between students and faculty. This stems from the developing nature of the research projects, which ideally gives students ownership over unique and academically valuable work which they have been able to help shape." - Jamie, English and International Relations
