The School of Divinity and the University of St Andrews are committed to the professional development of their researchers at all levels: undergraduate, postgraduate, early career and advanced.

Postgraduate professional development

The School prepares its postgraduates to be competitive in the academic and non-academic job market. It has a dedicated Postgraduate Training Officer who organises workshops and lectures on topics such as presenting at conferences, applying for academic jobs, and publishing.

Other opportunities include the following:

• The School runs five weekly research seminars for research students and staff. These are essential occasions for networking and widening disciplinary and inter-disciplinary knowledge.
• Paid tutorships (teaching assistantships) for first- and second-year undergraduate modules are advertised each semester. These allow postgraduates to develop their teaching skills under the supervision of a module coordinator.
• The School offers postgraduate students financial assistance to support research and conference travel.
• The School and the University provide seed funding for student-led conferences and workshops. The St Andrews Symposium for Biblical and Early Christian Studies is organised and managed by the Schools' postgraduate research students.
• The University more widely offers a suite of professional development opportunities through the GRADskills programme for postgraduate and postdoctoral researchers
• The University also provides funding for postgraduate research students to undertake training and development of transferrable skills.
