Younger Hall

Thanks to the generosity of its supporters, the £12 million redevelopment of the Younger Hall is now complete. The state-of-the-art space reopened in summer 2022, hosting graduations for the Classes of 2020, 2021 and 2022 following delays during the pandemic, as well as exams, lectures and performances.

The building also played host to some of the world’s best-loved golfers ahead of the 150th Open Championship in St Andrews in July 2022. Those honoured included Jack Nicklaus, who also received the Freedom of the City of St Andrews in the Younger Hall.

Since the Younger Hall was inaugurated in 1928, generations of students have passed through its doors to sit exams, perform in concerts, dance on its sprung floor and cross its stage to become fully-fledged alumni.

After nearly a century of constant use, the comprehensive programme of works saw the space transformed with an internal and external renovation of listed features, and upgrading of disabled access, heating, soundproofing and acoustics.

Thank you to all those who donated, sponsored seat plaques and flagstones, and made this restoration project at the heart of the University possible.
