Making Waves Campaign update
Following the successful launch of Making Waves: The Campaign for St Andrews in September, we’ve embarked upon a series of Impact Events across the UK and around the world.
University representatives including the Principal Professor Dame Sally Mapstone, Director of Development Robert Fleming, Deputy Principal and Vice-Principal (International Strategy and External Relations) Professor Brad MacKay, Assistant Vice-Principal (Dean of Learning and Teaching) and Provost Professor Frank Lorenz Müller, and Campaign Chair Tim Allan (MA 1988) met with alumni and friends to share St Andrews' vision for the Making Waves Campaign.
Our most recent events were held in London, Frankfurt and Berlin. Details of upcoming Impact Events around the world will be shared in due course as we look ahead to 2025.
We are also thrilled to share two new exciting Making Waves Campaign films, bringing both ‘New College’ and the Digital Nexus Building to life through their respective architects’ visualisations.
Discover our plans for ‘New College’.

Tell us about your Raisin receipts!
Traditionally, in the St Andrews academic family, children would present their parents with a pound of raisins by way of thanks for welcoming them to the University and mentoring them. In return, they would receive their Raisin receipt – a Latin phrase, written on parchment. Over time, more unusual objects have replaced the parchment.
If you received a particularly interesting receipt during your Raisin Weekend, we’d love to hear about it for potential inclusion in an upcoming feature.
Email deveditorial@st-andrews.ac.uk with a photograph and a few lines of explanation.

Alumni Stories
This month, Alison Payne (BSc 1982) explains how she followed in her father’s footsteps to study medicine here, pursued a fascinating career in her field, embarked upon an ‘off-grid’ lifestyle in New Zealand, and chose to give back to support future medics at St Andrews.
We also hear from Kitty Vickers (MA 2023), who instigated an undergraduate exchange programme between St Andrews and Ca’ Foscari University in Venice, after being inspired by her love of Italian history, art, language and culture.
If you would like to share your story, please email deveditorial@st-andrews.ac.uk.
