Kaleidoscope Alumni Network Newsletter

Semester 1 2023-2024

Welcome to the first issue of our dedicated Kaleidoscope Alumni Network (KAN) newsletter. KAN launched in November 2022 with an event at the Laidlaw Music Centre in St Andrews, which was broadcast for and by our community around the world – it’s our first anniversary!

One year on - and with 1,424 members already registered - we are excited to launch our biannual newsletter to celebrate news and events from KAN alumni, students, staff and friends. We want to ensure our many and varied narratives are listened to and heard. We’re taking a participatory approach to this – one that hold diversity, equity and inclusion at its core. This requires actively involving community members – alumni and supporters - in decision-making, problem-solving and shaping our collective future. It's about harnessing unique strengths, talents and insights to create an inclusive network that speaks to us all collectively.

This is a novel approach to alumni engagement in an historic institution and, in that regard, St Andrews is, once again, sector leading. By asking our alumni what their values are and how we can align our skills, lived experiences and desire for a better world with those values, we are making tangible collective change to our St Andrews ‘bubble’ and to the world.

We hope that you enjoy reading the features and listening to the podcasts in this issue. My hope is that as we read, listen, watch and perhaps even attend, we are challenged to think, feel, talk and connect. Thank you to everyone who has contributed to this issue. Big things have small beginnings and so, if you have an idea for a feature or would like to be included in dialogue or discussion with us, please get in touch by emailing stakan@st-andrews.ac.uk.

We have some exciting UK events planned for this month, and are looking forward to seeing some of you in Manchester and Preston. Please also look out for upcoming KAN events in 2024 and if you are planning to visit St Andrews, do let us know – we would love to catch up with you in person.

With best wishes,

Dr Catherine Dunford (she/her/hers)
