The Semiahmoo Trail: Myths Makers Memories

Ronald Dowle, BSc 1949

The New Westminster - Semiahmoo Wagon Road, generally known as 'The Semiahmoo Trail', was the first road crossing what is now known as the Lower Mainland of British Colombia, Canada. It was built on 1873-74 and ran from the south bank of the Fraser River opposite New Westminster to Semiahmoo, then a town on the US border. A reconstruction of the original surveyor's plan is included in the book .

Misconceptions about its origin and construction are dealt with. It fell into disuse with the coming of the railways and the Age of the Automobile completed the process. Today only a small section remains in South Surrey as a favourite country walk. This is the first account of the history of the Trail.
