A Tynesdie Martyr to Medicine

Ian Conacher, MB, ChB, 1971

The Story of Dr John Dickinson MB, of Jarrow (1832-1863) who joined the Universities' Mission to Central Africa as its medical officer. Like Bishop Mackenzie, and two other ministers, Dickinson did not return.

He died of the complications of malaria in a situation that was a side show to the Zambezi Expedition (1858-64) lead by Dr David Livingstone and was ultimately the cause of its failure in intent to Christianise, Civilise and Commercialise.
