Alexander Berry (1781-1873) born near Cupar, Fife went up to the University of St Andrews in 1796. After an adventurous life on the high seas with the East India Company, he travelled to Australia via the Cape.
He established a settlement on the South Coast,at Coolangatta,in 1822 and bequeathed the then massive sum of £100,000.00 to his beloved Alma Mater. This volume is re-issued on Kindle Direct Publishing to commemorate his life and benefaction at a time approaching the 600th aniversary of the University,
