Ca’Foscari University was founded in 1868 and sits on the bend of the Grand Canal in central Venice. The main University building is in a Gothic Venetian palace.

There are about 20,000 enrolled students at the University. Today the University has 8 main departments offering classes at the undergraduate, graduate and PhD level.

This exchange is open to students studying Joint Honours Italian and Arabic or Single Honours Italian.

Living there

Getting there and getting around

  • From Piazzale Roma or from Venice Santa Lucia train station

    Ca’ Foscari is a 15 minute walk from both Piazzale Roma (bus station and car parking terminal) and Venice Santa Lucia train station.

    By vaporetto (i.e. public boat service), from either the Ferrovia or Piazzale Roma stop, take either Line 1 or Line 2 and get off at the San Tomà stop, which is the one closest to Ca’ Foscari. Vaporetto schedules and routes can be found on the ACTV website the Public Transportation Authority of Venice.

  • From Marco Polo Airport of Venice

    For those who arrive at Marco Polo Airport, there are connecting bus services run by the A.C.T.V. and A.T.V.O. companies. Buses reach Piazzale Roma (bus station and car parking terminal in Venice) in approximately 20 minutes.

  • From Canova Airport of Treviso

    For those who arrive at Canova Airport of Treviso, there are connecting bus services run by A.T.V.O. and Brusutti companies. Buses reach Piazzale Roma (bus station and car parking terminal in Venice) in approximately 60 minutes.

  • You can also travel in a private water taxi and taxi services from the airports

    For international students the University has many resources, including the Erasmus Student Network (ESN), which puts on both social and academic events for international students in Venice.

    The University recommends a monthly budget of 750€.

    Insurance

    Ca' Foscari asks students to have a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC card) issued by your National Health Authorities (for EU students) or another health insurance (for non-EU students).
