At a glance

The University of Toulouse was founded in 1229 and operated until 1968, when it was split into three institutions. The arts and humanities university was established in 1969, in the Mirail area of Toulouse. Initially known as Toulouse II Le Mirail, the University changed its name to honour the politician and writer Jean Jaurès.

The University of Toulouse Jean Jaurès has around 31,000 students. There are approximately 5,200 international students representing 145 nationalities. Toulouse welcomes around 400 exchange students each year. Toulouse has five faculties:
  • History, art and archaeology
  • Foreign languages, literatures and civilisations
  • ‘Lettres’, philosophy, music, performance arts and drama
  • Psychology
  • Sciences, spaces, societies

    The nearest airport is Toulouse-Blagnac. Travel from the airport to the University is possible via the airport shuttle bus and the metro (line A).

    Accommodation

    University accommodation is not guaranteed, so you should be prepared to seek private accommodation.

    On the campus, students can choose from a variety of dining options managed by the CROUS organisation, including a cafe, restaurant and food truck. Prices are usually subsidised. Students pay with an app or their bank card.
