The Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Chimie de Lille (ENSCL) was founded in 1894 and is one of the top chemistry schools in France; it is highly selective and prestigious.

Lille is France's fourth largest city, situated in the north, close to the Belgian border and it has a vibrant population of nearly 250,000. It is forty minutes from Brussels, one hour from Paris and two hours from London. ENSCL is situated on a campus fifteen minutes outside the city centre. The University population is 20,000 and the campus has over 200 research laboratories.

Living there

Getting there and getting around

If you arrive at Charles de Gaulle Airport, there is a direct rail link to Lille. From Orly Airport, the underground links with Line B of the RER at Antony. From there, take the underground to 'Gare du Nord'; approximately 30 minutes and trains are frequent. For more travel options, browse ENSCL's webpages.

In Lille, there is a metro and tram system, as well as a good bus service. Lille is at the heart of a triangle linking three capitals European Union: London, Paris and Brussels.

Thanks to the TGV, Lille is only 35 minutes from Brussels, 1h00 from Paris and 1h20 from London.

Accommodation

The international office will help you to find university accommodation. Halls of residence are located on the University campus, close to restaurants and the underground station. Generally, students are given a room in the 'Residence Boucher', which is very close to ENSCL.

The Student Health Centre for Université Lille 1 (of which the ENSCL is part) provides a range of resources for students.

Student experience

Lille is considered the 3rd student city of France after Paris and Lyon. There are numerous bars, restaurants and entertainment venues to explore. Student 'poles' are in charge of organising various activities, such as sports, sustainable activities, and the ENSCL gala.
