Living there

Getting there and getting around

Hamburg has a large international airport with several flights a day to and from the UK.

Whether you prefer walking, driving or biking ─  getting around in Hamburg is easy. The city boasts an extensive public transport network of rapid transit and regional trains, buses and harbour ferries, operated by Hamburg's public transport organisation HVV.

Accommodation

The University suggests looking for accommodation through Studierendenwerk Hamburg which currently provides 26 student housing facilities for 4,400 inhabitants. All rooms are furnished and rent including utilities starts at EUR 260. This rather inexpensive type of accommodation is much desired, however. We strongly recommend that you apply online at least three months before your planned moving date!

Please note that St Andrews is unable to guarantee housing at any of our partner institutions. Guidance on finding accommodation abroad is available on the Global Office webpage.

Student services and orientation

Hamburg's Student Advice Centre provides support for students. There is also support for students with disabilities. Find out more about counselling services here.

Please be aware that student support services will be different across all of our partner universities.
