Seminars

The School organises a regular programme of seminars, colloquia, and talks by external and internal speakers from both industry and academia. The talks are aimed at bringing the diversity, excitement and impact in Computer Science from around the globe to staff and students within the School.

Seminars provide an opportunity to discover a new topic of research, often presenting state-of-the-art work in computer science. Students may find seminars helpful when deciding on a topic for their dissertation project.

All staff and students are encouraged to attend seminars and visitors to the University are welcome.

School seminars are held during Semester 1 and 2, typically on the first and third Tuesday of each month, from 2pm to 3pm.

Anyone that is interested in visiting and giving a talk, or that has a visitor that would make a great School Seminar Series speaker, should e-mail seminars-cs@st-andrews.ac.uk. Feedback and photos of previous seminars are also welcome.

The St Andrews Human-Computer Interaction (SACHI) research group organises its own seminar series. SACHI seminars are held during Semester 1 and 2, typically on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month, from 2pm to 3pm.

This seminar series addresses developments in human-computer interaction understood in a broad sense, and often includes talks that are also of interest to other areas of computer science and beyond, such as:
- ubiquitous computing
- colour perception
- sensing
- digital humanities
