Responsible computing
The increasingly pervasive deployment of computing systems and technologies means that they affect all areas of society. This raises a variety of concerns and questions about how to develop, deploy and use such technology. The Responsible Computing Research Group brings together researchers from across various themes in the school, including AI, HCI and Systems, to target issues around the ethics of using data and technology; environmental and social sustainability; cultural and geographical inclusivity; and societal and legal effects including human and data rights.
We hold regular meetings to which all interested members of the School are invited. We also collaborate with groups across the University such as: the Centre for Research into Information, Surveillance & Privacy; Centre for Energy Ethics; Institute of Legal and Constitutional Research; St Andrews Centre for Critical Sustainabilities.
