Teaching

I teach modules related to my specialist research, such as Computer Graphics and Machine Learning. I have also contributed to teaching of foundational Computer Science topics such as programming, Operating Systems, and Databases.

Research areas

I am interested in all aspects of vision. I build computer algorithms that analyse and understand images but I am also interested in vision more generally, including learning about biological vision systems and understanding intelligence in a general sense. I am particularly interested in bridging the gap between lower-level pixel representation and higher-level semantic concepts, including feedback from semantic understanding to effectively guide vision. This includes an interest in active vision and the perception-action loop, which can be tested in real world using a robotic platform.

I am also interested in improving access to technology through development and promotion of open source solutions and open data. This includes AI methods developed through my research, but also supporting open source software that extends life of abandoned products (including laptops, desktops, smartphones, routers).
