About

This Collections site is part of the consolidation and digitisation of the University of St Andrews museums and special collections objects. This work aims to widen access, improve discoverability, and introduce re-use and interoperability with other tools.

The University Library’s Special Collections holds printed books, manuscripts, photographs and the University archive. The Museums' collections consist of around 115,000 artefacts and specimens. Both collections reflect more than 600 years of academic enquiry, creativity and innovation being built up since the University’s foundation in the 15th century. The collections also offer rich opportunities for teaching and research.

IIIF technology

The Collections site uses the International Image Interoperability Framework (IIIF), a defined universal standard which enables the deep-zoom, sharing, and re-use of many of our images in a variety of tools such as Exhibit, workspace, Recogito, or even creating your own virtual museum.

To re-use any of our records/images in other IIIF tools, copy the "IIIF Manifest" link found on the record pages, or look for buttons on "my selection" after creating a selection.
