Research areas

I am a PhD candidate at the University of St Andrews, supervised by Professor Myles Lavan. I hold an MA (Hons) in Ancient History from the University of St Andrews (2023) and an MSt in Roman History from Regents Park College, Oxford (2024), where I studied Roman Law.

My doctoral research examines how the concept of peculium, a legal device that allowed persons without a legal personality to hold property, shaped Roman practices of slavery. My goal is to understand how the existence of a legal framework regulating slave property affected the strategies used by enslavers to exploit enslaved people, the dynamics of social inequality among enslaved people, and the frequency and form of manumission.
