Preparing the Moodle course for a module
Guidance for teaching staff whose module has been created/rolled over in the digital learning environment.
If your module is now available to you, you can start to prepare the Moodle course that’s linked to it for the semester ahead.
The Moodle course for your module is hidden from students on creation to give you time to organise its contents. Students cannot access the course until you release it.
Key information to help you get your course ready is given in the five phases below.
1. Access course
There are different ways to access the Moodle course for your module. Staff tend to login to Moodle directly to do so. Students typically access modules and their associated Moodle courses through the MySaint portal.

About enrolment
Students are automatically enrolled onto modules and their associated Moodle courses. Staff are enrolled via the MMS part of the module, usually by a member of the admin team in the School.
2. Edit course
If you’re new to Moodle, the first step to editing your course is to enable 'Edit mode' in the top right corner. To add files to the course, simply drag and drop them onto the course page. To add anything else, select ‘+ Add an activity or resource’.

3. Manage course
There may be some content in your course that you wish to delete or that isn’t accessible. You may also wish to hide all or some of the content in your course, particularly that which is time sensitive or assessment related.
Watch the video: Managing and hiding content.
4. Review course
Once you’ve prepared the course contents, we encourage you to do a quality check by assuming the student role. If you have a lot of hidden content in the course, this is a good way to get a sense of what your course will look like to the students on entry.

5. Release course
The last step in preparing the course is to release the course. Go to ‘Settings’ in the Administration block (you may need to open the block drawer in the course to see this) to access the course settings page. Change ‘Course visibility’ to ‘Show’, then scroll to the bottom of the page and click ‘Save and display’.
