Postgraduate (taught) internship opportunities

The Careers Centre offers paid internships for taught postgraduate students.

These internships take place within the professional service units of the University. The internship could be a specific project, work area, or initial stages of a programme.

You can apply for up to two internships within the scheme but may accept only one.  You will be paid a learning stipend of £364 per full-time week or equivalent.

Benefits

  • Get real, graduate-level work experience.
  • Gain transferable skills to increase your future employability.
  • Get application and interview practice to help you prepare for future job applications.
  • Learn how to reflect on your management of and contribution to a project.

Applying

Submit a CV and cover letter via CareerConnect, stating how you meet the requirements of the internship and what you'd like to gain from the experience.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend an interview with the host professional service unit.

What to expect

You will be given an induction at the start of your internship. This will include an introduction to the overall function of the unit in which you will be working.

You will then be assigned a real-life project to work on and be expected to perform useful tasks within the unit. This is designed to replicate the challenges of working in a graduate-level job.

During your internship, you will also be provided with comprehensive feedback on your performance.

Hours of work

A standard, full-time working week is 36 hours and 15 minutes, though you should read the job description for your specific hours. You will be able to set a schedule that works for you and your host. Key dates or times you need to work will be clearly agreed.

You must ensure you can work the hours of the internship while meeting the demands of your course of study. You must also abide by any visa rules.
